Name: Buggy Hive
Area: East Govan
The Buggy Hive or Buggy Loan was a row of cottages on Broomloan Road near Summertown Road built between 1858-1893; by 1900 these cottages had come to house some of the poorest immigrant arrivals to Govan (usually Irish). The people living there were stereotyped as being dirty and lice laden leading to the derogatory name of The Buggy Hive. There is a local history group in the east end of Govan who are called The Buggy Hive.
